Q: What is the best toothbrush to use?
A: There is no single toothbrush that is the best to use. Many brushes can do a good job cleaning your teeth of plaque, so it’s most important that you find a toothbrush that’s comfortable & easy to use twice a day. Here are some tips for selecting a good toothbrush:

  • Make sure the toothbrush head is small enough to reach the back of your mouth & teeth
  • Soft bristle toothbrushes will minimize damage to your gums
  • Choose a comfortable handle so that you can brush thoroughly every time
  • Manual & powered toothbrushes can both be effective, so choose the one that feels most comfortable
  • Only buy toothbrushes that have the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Approval
  • Replace your toothbrush every 2-3 months

Q: What’s the best teeth replacement option?
A: If you are looking for high quality teeth replacement, there are many great options including bridges, dentures & dental implants. Each of these has advantages & disadvantages based on cost, longevity & durability.

A dentist can explain all of the differences & help you decide which option is best for you. In general, dental implants have the most durability & will do the best job preventing bone loss in your jaw.

Q: What’s a Galileos Scanner?
A: A Galileos Scanner is one of the most advanced face-scanning technologies available. With our Galileos Scanner we can take a perfect 3-D CT picture of your face & mouth. This allows us to show you exactly what our treatment will do & how you will look after we have completed the procedure.

The Galileos Scanner is extremely safe & easy to use. It uses no lasers, & that means a more comfortable experience for you when you are getting scanned.

Q: How can I prevent cavities?
A: Cavities are caused when bacteria use leftover sugar & food in your mouth to create acid that wears away the enamel on your teeth. The best ways to prevent cavities include thoroughly brushing your teeth twice a day & flossing. It can also help to avoid snacking between meals & reducing the amount of sugary foods & drinks that you consume. If you visit your dentist twice a year, he will be able to give you a complete cleaning & recommend ways you can better prevent cavities.

Q: Can dental x-rays damage my body or cause cancer?
A: During an x-ray at your dentist’s office, your body will be exposed to an extremely small amount of radiation. At Creekside Family Dental, we use modern digital x-ray machines that have low radiation levels, small beams & short exposure. Our machines are well-maintained & regularly tested, & they are very safe. In fact, a digital x-ray cuts your exposure to radiation by about 90%!

Q: When do I need to start taking my child to the dentist?
A: To avoid any early dental problems, you should schedule a visit after your child has his first tooth. We can then talk to you about your baby’s diet & how to prevent any tooth decay. In many cases, you won’t need to bring your child in for regular checkups until he or she is two or three years old.

Q: What should I do in a dental emergency?
A: We are committed to being there for our clients in the case of an emergency. If you are having an emergency, please give us a call & explain to us what type of dental injury you have. We will do our best to see you within the next 24 hours. If your emergency occurred on the weekend, call us right away, so that we can schedule you for our next available appointment.
