Hello Mansfield! Welcome back to the ongoing dental health blog of Sanders Family Dental; today I want to talk about something near and dear to my heart: dental implants.

A younger patient recently asked me what my favorite day as a dentist was. That’s a tough question to answer, but my many experiences restoring people’s confidence and missing teeth with dental implants stuck out. With dental implants, I’ve seen incredible transformations in the smiles of my patients. They don’t just look better after receiving a dental implant restoration, they feel better as well.

Maybe you’re asking yourself what’s a dental implant? A dental implant restoration is a surgical procedure in which we install an article tooth root in a patient’s jawbone. The artificial root actually fuses with their jaw and becomes just as strong as a natural tooth root. On top of the new root, we place an artificial tooth to replace a missing tooth. We can also use dental implants to hold dentures in place or other restorations as well.

Today, I want to to take a little bit of time and tell you four reasons why I’m excited about dental implants. So without further ado:

Reason #1: Dental Implant Restorations Look Amazing

Having missing teeth can make it hard to feel confident, which greatly impacts your self-esteem. You may even fear that you look uneducated. At Sanders Family Dental in Mansfield, TX, we’ve helped countless numbers of patients regain their confidence by regaining their teeth. Our dental implant restorations look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. We will match the shade of the restoration to that of your other teeth, ensuring that no one knows that it’s not your real tooth.

Reason #2: Dental Implants Allow You to Eat What You Love

When you’re missing teeth, it can become quite difficult to eat certain foods. Take corn on the con for instance, sounds pretty painful doesn’t it? When you’re missing teeth, you may even begin to seek out a diet of easier-to-chew, soft foods. Over time this can have consequences for your overall health. While certain soft foods like mashed potatoes may taste good, they lack the fiber and protein that you need. This can eventually lead to malnutrition, diabetes, and other serious health problems.

Reason #3: Dental Implants Promote Oral Health

When you’re missing teeth, or even just a single tooth, you begin to jeopardize the health of your remaining teeth and of your jawbone. Chewing places a certain amount of stress on your teeth; when you have a full-set of teeth, that stress is safely divided among your various teeth. When you chew with a missing tooth or teeth, it greatly increases the amount of stress placed on your remaining teeth. This stress can push your teeth out of position; this movement can loosen your teeth and cause embarrassing gaps between your teeth. You may even begin to lose the rest of your teeth.

Reason #4: Dental Implants Do Not Require Other Teeth to Be Reduced

Unlike with dental bridges, dental implants do not require the reduction of any of your other teeth. Dental bridges are held in place by dental crowns on the sides of a missing tooth; your natural teeth have to be reduced through the removal of enamel to accommodate the crowns. Dental implants allow you to maintain your original teeth, without any reductions in their size or shape. This allows dental implants to look the most natural of any possible replacements for missing teeth.

That’s just four of the many amazing benefits of dental implants; there are a whole host of other reasons to consider dental implants as well. Many patients come to us with excitement after receiving their dental implants, because they feel like they can naturally chew and speak for the first time in decades. Plus, dental implants are extremely durable restorations that can last for decades.
