Here At Sanders Family Dentist, in Mansfield, TX, we’re excited to offer the Invisalign system of Adult Orthodontics. We wanted to devote today’s blog to telling you a few of the great reasons Invisalign might be right for you.

Most adults cringe at the thought of being seen in Braces. But unlike Traditional Adult Braces, Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners. That means you can take them out before a presentation or a photo; and most people don’t notice the clear aligners when they’re in your mouth.

This is a big selling point for most people, but we’ve got four more great reasons for you to consider Invisalign.

Reason Number #4: You Want To Fix Your Smile

If you’ve ever considered Adult Braces, then there’s probably something about your smile that you’d like to change. Do you have gaps in your teeth? Spacing issues with teeth not only look unprofessional, they can lead to serious oral problems as well. Gaps or crooked teeth are among the most common reasons people select Invisalign.

But Invisalign can help with more than just simple cosmetic issues; it can treat more advanced orthodontic issues as well. If you are suffering from overbite, crossbite, or underbite, you put a tremendous amount of wear and tear on your teeth. This can lead to costly dental work down the line, and potentially cause you to lose teeth. In addition, you can develop problems with your jaw, such as TMJ disorders.

Invisalign can treat these problems, as well as several other orthodontic issues. If you’ve ever been told you’re a candidate for Adult Braces, then Invisalign could be right for you.

Reason Number #3: You Prefer New Technology

Invisalign works much like Traditional Adult Braces, only without all the metal and wires. Using a state-of-the-art system of clear aligners, Invisalign quickly but gently moves your teeth into your desired position. These aligners keep your mouth free of the irritation caused by the metal and wires of Traditional Adult Braces.

Because every smile is different, we create a customized treatment plan for every patient. We take x-rays, photos, and impressions of your teeth in order to create a 3D imaging model of your mouth. This allows you to know what your smile will look like before you even begin treatment.

You will receive your aligners shortly after we finish creating your treatment plan. You wear each set of aligners for around two weeks, and then graduate into the next set. You can have amazing results in about a year; half the time it takes Traditional Adult Braces.

Reason Number #2: You Want To Eat As You Please

Unlike nearly every other Adult Orthodontic device on the market, Invisalign does not require you to change your diet and avoid certain foods. You just remove your Invisalign aligner before you eat, then put it back in afterwards. With Invisalign, the whole world of food can be a part of your menu.

This not the case with metal and wire Braces. Even foods as simple as pizza and hamburgers can become hard to eat with Traditional Adult Braces. The stringy, melty cheese of a good pizza can become tangled and entrapped in the brackets and wires of Traditional Adult Braces. Chewing on the crust of the pizza can also loosen the wires of Traditional Braces, killing their effectiveness. And that steak? If it’s well-cooked, chewing on it can knock a bracket right off your tooth.

Reason Number #1: You Don’t Want to Deal with Decay

Brushing and flossing can be very difficult, and incredibly time-consuming, with Traditional Adult Braces. Before you even brush, you have to take great care to remove any of the rubber bands out of your mouth. Then you need to brush every bracket and wire of the Traditional Braces. If you don’t, bacteria can form on the Braces; causing your teeth to decay even while they’re being straightened. Only after these steps, should you actually brush your teeth.

Flossing can also be a time-consuming pain with Traditional Braces. You need to buy a special kind of floss, and maneuvering around all the metal in your mouth can difficult. But food has a tendency to become stuck in Traditional Braces, so if you skip this step for even a day, you’re increasing your risk of tooth decay.

With Invisalign, you take out your aligners before you brush and floss. This allows you to continue your normal dental hygiene habits, and keep your teeth healthy. In addition, you don’t have to worry about the yellow spots and stains on your enamel that are often left behind by the brackets of Traditional Braces.
